Indoor Turf
Training Facility
WESTERN MICHIGAN BRONCOS
We reimagined the Western Michigan Broncos’ indoor turf training facility as a unified expression of the program’s brand. Every surface and material was designed to connect identity with performance — creating a space that motivates athletes and elevates daily training in the multi-sport space.
The Western Michigan Athletics team knew their indoor training facility wasn’t matching the program’s rising ambitions. The space was dated, visually flat, and disconnected from the energy of the Broncos’ brand. Our team tasked with transforming the environment into a space that inspired pride, strengthened cohesion, and elevated the daily athlete experience — all within a defined budget.
More than a refresh, the goal was to make the space feel alive — confident, competitive, and unmistakably Western Michigan. We set out to create an environment that fuels recruiting, reinforces program identity, and unites athletes across sports under one banner of shared purpose.
Before
After
We began with strategy. Western Michigan provided a clear list of priorities; our role was to translate those needs into a cohesive visual experience that performed both functionally and emotionally.
With scale, durability, and cost in mind, every design decision was intentional — investing in moments that would deliver maximum impact per square foot. The result: a facility that looks and feels far beyond its budget through smart material selection, scalable motifs, and consistent brand storytelling.
A revitalized the facility from the ground up — literally. A new turf system mirrors the game-day field, paired with an updated paint palette and wall padding that carries the Broncos’ Venetian-band gradient motif. Large-scale type moments draw from the fight song and team mantras, while brand color blocking bring energy and movement throughout the vast interior.
The transformation has been met with overwhelming positive feedback from athletes, coaches, and administrators alike. The space now stands as a benchmark for how a well-defined brand strategy can elevate performance and culture — proving that smart design outperforms spend.
